Sixers rumored to swap stars with Suns

Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor proposed a blockbuster star swap between the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns, suggesting Paul George and two future first-round picks be traded for Kevin Durant.

With the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and a need to retool the roster, the Philadelphia 76ers are once again in the middle of trade speculation.

One of the more eye-catching proposals comes from Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor, who floated the idea of Philly going after Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant in a deal centered around Paul George.

“Paul George and two first-round picks for Kevin Durant. Simple, clean,” O’Connor said on his podcast. “Flip Paul George to Phoenix with two future firsts and get Kevin Durant back. It's a clear upgrade for the Sixers.”

O’Connor explained the reasoning from both sides.

“For the Suns, you might say, well, why do you want Paul George after the year he had? He's a diminished asset on a big salary. Well, not if you refurbish his value. If he has a good year with the Suns next to Devin Booker, then he becomes either a guy you want to keep or flip to get more picks in return.”

He added that the deal would allow the Sixers to maintain flexibility with the No. 3 pick.

“I think that's a good deal, especially for Philadelphia, because then you can still play around with the number three pick, trade down, whatever you want to do.”

“And for Phoenix… a low-pressure situation like Phoenix compared to what George dealt with in Philadelphia, I'd be intrigued by that for the Phoenix side of things,” he concluded.

Durant, 36, is still producing at a high level. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season, shooting 52.7% from the field and 43.0% from beyond the arc.
