Chelsea could keep Noni Madueke at the club next season regardless of whether they are successful in their pursuit of a new winger.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 23-year-old still has a role to play in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

The Blues had been targeting a move to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens, casting doubt over the future of Madueke at Stamford Bridge.

Brown first told Football Insider in January that Chelsea are keen on a move for Gittens, while he remains interested in a return to English football.

Despite that deal seemingly being dead in the water, Maresca’s side are assessing potential alternatives as signing a new wide man is on their list of priorities.

Having now lost both Jadon Sancho and Mykhailo Mudryk from the squad which started the season, there is a belief that a new arrival will not spell the end for Madueke.

Madueke to stay at Chelsea amid Tottenham and Villa interest

Football Insider revealed in April that Tottenham and Aston Villa want to sign Madueke and are keeping a close eye on his situation at Stamford Bridge.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that while clubs are interested, Chelsea will only do a deal if it makes sense for them.

“Chelsea have been pushing to sign Jamie Gittens,” he told Football Insider.

“Personally, I have my doubts about him, but it’s a move they’ve been looking at for a while because they do want to sign another winger.

“Even if they sign Gittens, though, I don’t think that means they’ll let Noni Madueke go.

“Madueke isn’t the finished article, but he’s still full of promise and still has a part to play for Chelsea.

“He’s the type of winger who likes to get in behind and beat his full-back, I think he’s got to harden himself up a bit, but he has a lot to offer.

“We saw what he could do in what was a very poor England team against Andorra.

“So while Chelsea are looking to bring in a winger, it doesn’t immediately mean Madueke is gone.

“Especially with Sancho on his way out, they’re one down on last season.

“Clubs will be looking at Madueke’s situation, but as things stand I hear the manager still sees him as being part of his squad next season.

“If he’s going to leave, it will be because Chelsea get a good offer rather than pushing him out.”

Trevoh Chalobah, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile latest

While Madueke could be set to remain at Chelsea this summer, they are prepared to accept offers for other first-team players in an attempt to raise funds.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 10 June that Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi could leave Chelsea as the Blues will look to sell following the Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, Trevoh Chalobah is attracting interest from Napoli and Premier League clubs, but Football Insider revealed on 10 June Chalobah is not first on their transfer list.

The defender has made 99 appearances for the West London club and is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2028.
