The saga of Viktor Gyokeres and his building tensions with Sporting Lisbon continue develop as the striker has now take to social media for the second time.
Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim left Sporting to take the helm with Manchester United.
Given the success the pair had together, with Gyokeres also wanting a new challenge, it’s been believed that a reunion is very much on the cards as United are in desperate need for a new striker.
However, the Sweden international has had a very public calling out with Sporting over the gentleman’s agreement they held when he agreed his most recent contract.
Despite a £85 million (€100 million) reported release clause, it was agreed that should the striker whish to leave the Portuguese capital, he could do so for £58 million.
However, Sporting have been demanding a fee from his potential suitors of £67 million, seemingly breaking their arrangement.
In response to this, Gyokeres was reportedly furious and took to Instagram, removing Sporting from his bio.
Taking time from his holiday to respond to the building feud, Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas commented that at the time of agreement, no set figures were agreed so they haven’t breached anything as it was merely arranged that clubs would not have to pay his full release clause.
It’s understood that Sporting are valuing their star man at around £70 million (€80 million), with United and Arsenal battling it out for the striker with bids of £51 million (€60 million) as an upright fee plus £8.5 million (€10 million) in add-ons.
Now, Viktor Gyokeres has taken to his Instagram once more, posting on his story: “There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.”
It’s unknown whether he’s referring to the talks of his frustration and anger with the Portuguese side, Varandas’ comments, or transfer links, however this saga certainly won’t be over any time soon.
