Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have been told what Viktor Gyokeres is “destined” to do amid the Sporting CP star being linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Viktor Gyokeres has made a real name for himself at Sporting CP and the 27-year-old Swedish forward is widely considered one of the best strikers in Europe.
The Sporting striker became a key player for Ruben Amorim when the 40-year-old Manchester United manager was in charge at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Gyokeres, who arrived at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in 2023 from Coventry City, has scored a remarkable 97 times in 102 appearances for the Primeira Liga champions.
The forward ended the 2024-25 campaign by scoring an impressive 54 times in 52 matches across all competitions and Gyokeres has attracted interest from United.
Amorim is in desperate need of a new striking option in the summer transfer window after the struggles of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund last season.

Ruben Amorim and Man Utd handed positive news in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP
Viktor Gyokeres is under contract with Sporting CP until 2028 and the Sweden international has a £85m release clause inserted into his current deal.
Manchester United are not alone in their pursuit of Gyokeres this summer, with Premier League rivals Arsenal also linked with the Sporting striker.
Journalist Gianluca Luca Marchetti has suggested that Arsenal could be one of the clubs that could meet the hefty fee that Sporting would want for the player.
However, he ruled out the idea of Juventus or any other Serie A club signing Gyokeres, saying that the former Coventry City man is “unaffordable” for them.
“Gyokeres-Juve? I think that at this moment the player is destined for other shores,” Gianluca Luca Marchetti told Sky Italia, as per Tutto Juve.
He added: “There are figures that are unaffordable for Italian teams. There are other teams after him, especially Arsenal.”

Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas has a clear transfer demand for Viktor Gyokeres amid Man Utd and Arsenal interest
Frederico Varandas has ruled out that Sporting made an agreement with Gyokeres that would allow him to leave for £59m and the club expect a bigger payment.
“One of the agent’s biggest concerns was whether we would demand the termination clause,” he said, as per BBC Sport.
“He wanted to guarantee certain things. And what was agreed? That Sporting would not demand a release clause now.
“For one reason: he was going to be 27 years old and no player leaves Portugal at 27 for 100m euros or 90m euros.
“In that same meeting, the agent wanted to anchor the exit to a value.
“I said this sentence: ‘It’s not worth us setting a value because I don’t know what will happen in a year’s time. I don’t know if it will be 40m euros, 60m euros or 80m euros. What I can guarantee is that I will not demand 100m euros.’”
United will begin their pre-season campaign under Ruben Amorim next month and the Red Devils will face rivals Leeds United in a friendly match on 19th July.
