Manchester United need to bring some new faces over the coming months

Manchester United have made errors in the transfer window time and time again over recent years. They have wasted a lot of money and need to be better with their recruitment over the next few years. The Red Devils are preparing for the start of the 2025/26 season and have an important couple of months ahead.

Ruben Amorim’s side finished down in a disappointing 16th place in the last campaign and need to compete higher the league next time around. They managed to reach the Europa League final as well last month. However, they were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

Manchester United should target former Chelsea man Andreas Christensen

Chelsea have a history of letting top players leave too soon such as Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne. Centre-back Andreas Christensen is another who they let slip through the net. He is currently on the books of Barcelona and has been a useful player for the La Liga giants over the past three years.

The defender is facing an uncertain long-term future with the Spanish outfit though and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him move on soon for a fresh start somewhere. The Mirror has recently claimed that he has been on the radar of United and he would be ideal if they managed to lure him to Old Trafford.

Christensen, 29, was snapped up by Chelsea as a youngster back in 2012 from Brondby. The Denmark international, who has made 74 caps for his country to date, then rose up through the ranks at Stamford Bridge before breaking into the first-team picture. He went on to play 161 games in all competitions during his 10 years in London and scored two goals from the back.

He was also loaned out to Borussia Monchengladbach back in 2015 for two years to get some experience under his belt and boost his development. Barcelona came calling for him in 2022 and he left on a permanent basis. He has since won the league title twice with his current club, as well as the Copa Del Rey.

Why Andreas Christensen would suit Manchester United

United need to tighten things up at the back and Christensen would bolster their defensive department. He is a cool customer who has played at the top level for a while now. The fact he has been at both Chelsea and Barcelona suggests he can handle the pressure of playing for teams who are expected to win every week and win trophies too.

The Red Devils conceded way too many goals last term and that was a major issue for them. Amorim will be eager to strengthen that area of the pitch and bringing in defensive reinforcements is likely to be high up on the agenda. Christensen fits the bill and it will be interesting to see if he is made available for transfer.

Amorim was picked as United’s replacement for Erik ten Hag in November last year. The hierarchy made the decision to make a change after a poor run of form. Prior to his move to England, their current head coach caught the eye over in his native Portugal at Sporting Lisbon.

It has since been a mixed spell in terms of results for the 44-year-old. He will be under pressure from the off in the upcoming campaign to start getting results. Amorim needs players with a winning mentality at his disposal and Christensen has inherited that over the past few years and should now test himself with a change of scene.
