AC Milan hold new meeting with Arsenal 28yo but wages prove problematic

AC Milan have held new conversations with Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko over a potential transfer, though they’re yet to reach an agreement on salary.

Further to reports from the same source earlier in the week, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that AC Milan have had fresh contact with Oleksandr Zinchenko over a potential summer move from Arsenal.

As it stands, the sticking point is reportedly Zinchenko’s wage demands. The player’s high salary would need to come down for a transfer to become possible.

Di Marzio had written on Monday that Milan were on the lookout for a left-back in light of Theo Hernandez’s potential departure, and that Zinchenko was one of the names on their shortlist.

The left-back does seem likely to leave Arsenal this summer, due to his limited minutes and strong competition in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Zinchenko played 23 times for Arsenal in 2024/25, which doesn’t sound terrible, but he only made eight starts in all competitions and spent a total of 789 minutes on the pitch.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s emergence has further limited Zinchenko’s game time, following Arteta’s decision to sign Riccardo Calafiori last summer. The Gunners also have the likes of Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu available to fill in if necessary, at least when they’re both fit.

Even Jakub Kiwior can play and has played at left-back for Arsenal at times. Zinchenko is probably a better option than at least some of the names listed above, but he’s not first choice, and he’s not a necessary backup.

Zinchenko has been doing what he can to put himself in the shop window on international duty with Ukraine, winning and scoring a penalty against Canada last week before netting again in a match against New Zealand on Tuesday.
