Over the last year, a host of current and former Manchester United players have been in trouble with the police around the world for various offences, being handed prison senances.
Brandon Williams has recently appeared at Chester Court for dangerous driving, getting handed a 14-month suspended sentence.
Patrice Evra was handed a suspended 12 month prison sentence for family abandonment.
Former United midfielder Anderson was also handed a month in prison if he didn’t pay the £45,000 that he owes in child support for his nine children.
However, United legend Denis Irwin has now been handed four months in prison, or at least the person claiming to be him has.
Daniel Spillane from Gurranabraher, Cork, was brought to the Republic of Ireland’s police force, the gardaí, for being drunk and becoming a danger to himself and others on 10th November 2019.
When approached by the police, Spillane identified himself as “Denis Irwin — famous soccer player”, before telling them to “F*** off out of my sight.”
He refused to give accurate details of who he was, claiming to be the Ireland and Manchester United legendary defender.
However, on 20th April 2025 he was reported to the police again for being threatening and a danger at Princes Street.
Now reporting to Cork District Court, Echo Live has reported that he pleaded guilty to all charges, being handed four months in jail.
His solicitor Frank Buttimer has commented: “It was a misjudgement of the situation by him” and claimed Spillane has a history of difficulties regarding addiction.
