Another day, another report about the Boston Celtics' offseason plans. On Wednesday, the update came from ESPN's Shams Charania, who was asked about what was going on in Boston, during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."
"The primary focus, from my understanding, with the Celtics' offseason has been Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Sam Hauser. Their trade markets," Charania explained. "Now, are teams making big offers and calling about Jaylen Brown and Derrick White? 100 percent. The Celtics prefer not to trade 'em, from my understanding."
Nothing new here, but this was Shams today on @PatMcAfeeShow about the Celtics' primary focus being on the trade markets for Holiday, Porzingis, and Hauser.

While this is mostly more of the same, there is a bit of new information here. This is the first time anyone has come out and said that Boston is having teams reach out with "big offers" for both Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.
There have been plenty of questions as to whether or not the pair of Celtics stars would be on the trading block, and it sounds like the answer is "no, not unless they offer something unbelievable."
"Listen, if they get a big offer, they have to look at everything," Charania continued. "And I think they're going to get, you know, offers on the three guys that they're focused on. They're going to get offers potentially on Derrick White and Jaylen Brown. And I think between now and the draft and free agency, they're going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective.”
The Celtics would be crazy to trade Jaylen Brown or Derrick White just for the sake of doing so
It's no secret that SOMEONE is going to have to be traded this summer. The Celtics have been above the NBA's second-apron line for the past two seasons and won't be looking to make it three in a row. In order for them to avoid doing so, they're going to have to shed roughly $20 million in salary.
Now, that isn't just $20 million, it's a net loss of $20 million. So contracts of potential free agents and draft picks have to be accounted for too.
As Charania pointed out, Holiday, Porzingis, and Hauser are the three guys who make the most sense in this scenario. Though they've all been contributors over the past two seasons, there's no guarantee that they'll be healthy or as sharp as they once were, by the time Jayson Tatum recovers from his ruptured Achilles and is ready to play again.
It's easy to see how White and Brown can remain part of Boston's basketball machine. They're both under contract for a significant span, and White in particular is on a bargain deal. While Brown's supermax contract might not be every fan's favorite, he's still an All-NBA level player who was the Finals MVP last season.
Plus, there's now a clear timetable for his recovery from his surgically repaired partial meniscus tear. The Celtics announced that JB had arthroscopic surgery to repair the issue and is expected to be fully ready for basketball activities by the time training camp rolls around in September.
