Manchester United are desperate to sign a goal-scorer this summer to add to their front line.

Man United’s glaring needs come in attack after last season. Ruben Amorim would like to sign a number nine to help with simply scoring goals, something that the Red Devils struggled to do last season.

They finished as the fifth-lowest-scoring team in the Premier League after strikers Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund combined for a total of just seven goals in the league, a figure that is not good enough for Man United’s number nines.

Due to this, they have been linked to several world-class strikers this summer, including Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike and Jonathan David, however, it is not yet clear as to which one they will sign.

Man United ‘to submit’ bid for Viktor Gyokeres

Gyokeres has been one of the best pure goal scorers in world football over the past year, netting 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season, helping the Portuguese side to win the league title. It is understood that he wants to leave this summer.

Arsenal had shown interest in the 27-year-old, however, it seems that the Gunners are prioiritisng a move to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, which could leave United free to target Gyokeres.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Man United have decided to submit an official offer to sign the Sporting CP striker. He is reportedly available for a fee of around £67m, which would make him more expensive than Matheus Cunha, who United paid £62.5m for.

The report says that after United lost out to Chelsea in the race to sign Liam Delap, the Red Devils have been keen to step up their pursuit of Gyokeres to ensure they land a top striker this summer. The Sweden international is reportedly willing to move to Man United, but with interest from Champions League side Arsenal, he could prefer a move to the Emirates instead.

Who would Man United sign instead of Viktor Gyokeres?

Victor Osimhen remains a player linked to Old Trafford, after a superb season on loan at Galatasaray from Serie A side Napoli last season. The Nigerian international is expected to leave Napoli on a permanent transfer this summer, with a release clause of £63m for his services.

It has previously been reported that Man United are open to selling striker Rasmus Hojlund, and also that Napoli are interested in the Danish international. Man United could decide to offer Hojlund as part of a deal for Osimhen in order to save money and stay on the right side of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Osimhen scored 37 goals for Galatasaray last season in 41 games, also showing himself to being one of the best goal scorers in Europe. Man United would likely be tempted to go after the Nigerian international if they fail to secure a deal to sign Gyokeres this summer.
