Hugo Ekitike to Man United transfer bombshell emerges amid Victor Osimhen stance on move

Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt celebrates a 1-0 victory following the Bundesliga match between Frankfurt and Stuttgart

Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United

Manchester United fans will be keeping a close eye on the summer transfer window following a disappointing season.

Ruben Amorim's side concluded the 2024/25 campaign with their worst-ever Premier League finish (15th), compounded by a loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. However, they did manage to secure their first home league victory since February with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day.

The Reds now face one of their most pivotal transfer windows in recent memory, with Matheus Cunha being unveiled as United's first summer signing of 2025. Several strikers are also being linked with a move to Amorim's team, including Hugo Ekitike, Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.

Rumours also swirl about potential departures from Old Trafford. The Manchester Evening News understands that the club is open to offers for any player.

Below are some of the latest United headlines swirling, along with our view on each....

Ekitike bombshell

United have reportedly entered the race for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. Sky Germany, via Sky Sports, claim that the Reds are exploring the conditions of a potential deal for the 22-year-old forward.

Frankfurt are said to be demanding around £85 million (€100m) for Ekitike, who has four years left on his deal.

Isaac Seelochan of the Manchester Evening News says: "Ekitike would be an excellent signing, however, I have my doubts over whether he would want to join United in their current state. Clubs in the Champions League are interested and who knows when the Reds will be back in that competition again.

"His reported price tag is also excessive and there are likely to be cheaper options available."

Osimhen reality

Victor Osimhen remains a real option for the Reds, according to claims by United in Focus.

“We’ve known about United and Osimhen for months, and it is genuine interest," claims reporter Graeme Bailey.

"United have known his wage demands and that he is prioritising a move to England for months; he has always wanted a Premier League move."

He added: "He knows United are an option and he wants to come to England."

Isaac Seelochan of the Manchester Evening News says: "Osimhen would be a much better option up-front than what United currently have, but it seems like Amorim prefers Gyokeres. If the Swede ends up joining another team, however, then Osimhen could be a potential back-up option."
