Rangers have failed to successfully bring through too many young talents in recent times, and that could be about to cost them again amid some transfer news involving Arsenal.

The Gers intend to strengthen their squad this summer now that Russell Martin has been appointed as manager, but some players are also set to depart.

The likes of Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers continue to be linked with the Ibrox exit prior to the start of the 2025-26 season.

And a lesser-known player could also be on his way out of Rangers, with English heavyweights Arsenal said to hold an interest.

Arsenal eye Rydnn McGuire transfer at Rangers

Scottish goalkeeper McGuire signed his first professional deal with Rangers in January, but he has yet to be given a shot in the first team.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

The youngster has impressed at age-grade level, though, so much so that Rangers Review recently reported that McGuire is attracting transfer interest from Arsenal.

It is reported that Rangers could potentially recoup a seven-figure fee for McGuire of around £1million plus add-ons.

While this is purely speculation at this stage, Rangers player-turned-pundit Derek Ferguson is disappointed at the lack of a pathway for youngsters as he called out previous figures at Ibrox.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson said: “I think those previously overseeing recruitment at Rangers missed a trick in that area.

“That’s the only disappointment under Barry [Ferguson], that we didn’t see more of these youngsters at the end of the season.

“It’s all about giving them a chance to see if they can handle playing in front of 50,000 people.

“A lot of the Scottish talents are not afraid to move abroad anymore. You can’t say these youngsters are not good enough anymore – look at players like Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson and Josh Doig.

“*It’s about what they bring to the table as well as quality. There’s a passion and mentality about these young Scottish guys.*“

McGuire unlikely to get first-team shot at Rangers

There is no doubt that Jack Butland is the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers, even if he did lose he place towards the end of last season.

Scottish Premiership table Points

1. Celtic 92

2. Rangers 75

Liam Kelly was given a chance and, while he did impress at times, Butland is almost certain to be restored by new boss Martin come the start of the new season.

McGuire will know he has a long way to go if he is to become number one at Rangers, and it may well be that he opts to go south of the border to start a new pathway, even if that is ultimately away from Arsenal.
