Manchester Utd are making moves in this transfer window with fresh talks to bring Jean-Philippe Mateta to Old Trafford.
They have sealed the big-money signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. New boss Ruben Amorim is focused on changing his forward line. Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are both struggling for form. At this moment in time, the Red Devils are looking to sign a top striker. They want someone with a track record of success in the Premier League. Now, Jean-Philippe Mateta ticks that box.
The French striker scored 17 goals with 4 assists in 46 appearances last season for Palace. He was a massive part of Crystal Palace‘s FA Cup glory. Liam Delap is now joining Chelsea and talks with other targets hitting roadblocks. So, Mateta has emerged as a top priority for this summer.
Contract Situation Could Trigger a Bargain Deal
Mateta’s current deal at Selhurst Park runs until 2027. But, reports suggest Palace are open to selling if a fee in the region of €35m (£29m) is offered. The club is holding talks to extend his contract. Although, Man Utd are closely monitoring the situation and ready to strike if an agreement isn’t reached.
The Eagles are already scouting replacements, including Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha. Meanwhile, European giants Juventus and AC Milan are also showing interest in the Frenchman. That means United could face stiff competition to get their player.
Still, Mateta’s goal tally and physical presence makes him an ideal fit for Amorim’s system. Although, Palace could offer Europa League football next season. Now, the striker has to make a key decision. But if the Red Devils move quickly, they could land a powerful forward at a smart price.
