Christian Eriksen has emerged as an unlikely transfer target for Wrexham this summer, following the Dragons’ promotion from League One.
It may have been somewhat predictable that Wrexham were to be credited with an interest in Christian Eriksen this summer.
Fans of free agents and fans of elder statesmen, Wrexham’s reported transfer interest in Eriksen is both humorous and exciting, whilst being a huge reminder of the progress made by the club in the last few years.
Already this summer, it’s been confirmed that Wrexham want to sign experienced players, in a transfer policy that has so far served manager Phil Parkinson very well with promotions in each of the last three seasons.
Along with Eriksen, Wrexham have been linked with Jamie Vardy who is also becoming a free agent, whilst Jonny Evans and Tom Cairney have both been mentioned alongside potential moves to the Racecourse as well.
Eriksen though is the marquee name being mentioned right now, and the Danish legend has now given a hint on his future.

Wrexham target Christian Eriksen asked if he’ll reunite with Thomas Frank at Spurs
Eriksen has been on international duty with Denmark of late. After being released by Man United, the 33-year-old has scored goals in each of Denmark’s two international games this month. Teammate Bruno Fernandes spoke fondly of Eriksen as well, after Fernandes’ Portugal lifted the Nations League earlier in June.
Whilst away with Denmark, Eriksen has given his verdict on Thomas Frank’s appointment at Spurs. Eriksen played under Frank at Brentford and is of course a Spurs legend, so a return to North London seems to make a lot of sense. But Eriksen has played down a potential return to the club.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, Eriksen said when asked if he could return to Spurs this summer: “No, not where we are now. Thomas should call if anything happens,” then asked if Frank had called him Eriksen smiled and replied: “No no no.”

Christian Eriksen has already revealed where he wants to play next
There’s suggestions that Eriksen wants to play outside of England from now on. Whether that means a return to his native Denmark, a move to the MLS, or anywhere in Europe or even the Middle East maybe, remains to be seen.
Speaking several years ago, though, Eriksen revealed his dream for the future, which is to simply play to the highest level for as long as possible. He said: “You can dream and hope the opportunity arises. But if it doesn’t, you can’t decide on it. Everyone dreams of the opportunity to move to clubs. Whether it ends with a yes or no, you choose that.”
Whether he deems Wrexham as a high level remains to be seen, if not unlikely: whilst a back up player for Man United last season, Eriksen could arguably cut it in a top flight elsewhere in Europe, which could prove preferable than taking a gamble on joining an unknown quantity in Wrexham.
And whilst Wrexham are set to spend big on player wages this summer, someone like Eriksen just seems too far out of reach, even should he take a significant pay cut.
