Nwaneri features as England U21 open with victory

Ethan Nwaneri was a second half substitute as England U21 got their European Championship title defence off to the perfect start with a 3-1 win over Czechia.

Our attacker came on for Jonathan Rowe in the 69th minute and showed plenty of promise in the final 20 minutes of the contest, beating his man on multiple occasions at the DAC Stadion.

Harvey Elliott opened the scoring on 39 minutes for Lee Carsley's side before Rowe doubled the scores just after half-time.

Daniel Fila gave Czechia a route back into the match on 59 minutes when he headed home Vaclav Sejk's cross. But any hope of a comeback was extinguished on 76 minutes when Charlie Cresswell got on the end of Alex Scott's corner to make it 3-1.

The result puts the Young Lions in second place on goal difference following Germany's 3-0 victory over Slovenia. Ethan and the team face Slovenia next, knowing a win could secure a place in the quarter-finals.
