Former All-Star Game starter emerges as realistic trade option for Lakers

Andrew Wiggins could be a realistic trade target for the Los Angeles Lakers as a better-fitting forward alongside Luka Doncic and LeBron James.

As usual, the Los Angeles Lakers enter the offseason as one of the most intriguing teams to watch. With the goal of building around Luka Doncic and LeBron James, potentially for one of the final times in LeBron’s storied career, the pressure is on to make the right moves.

Their early first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves has only raised more questions, particularly regarding Rui Hachimura’s fit alongside the Lakers' superstar duo.

Many believe it might be time for the team to move on from the Japanese forward.

In a recent episode of Buha’s Block, Lakers reporter Jovan Buha of The Athletic discussed the idea of trading for Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins, whose skill set may be a better fit for Los Angeles.

"Among the realistic options, he is someone that would check a lot of boxes," Buha said.

"It’s no shade at Rui... but a guy like Wiggins, or someone of that ilk, could come in and plug some of those holes as a more natural wing defender," he added.

Wiggins is set to earn $28.2 million next season and is believed to be a realistic trade target this offseason.

Heat forward has the tools to be an effective two-way contributor, with strong defensive instincts and a reliable three-point shot, qualities the Lakers could desperately use on the wing.

Andrew Wiggins averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists this season while playing around 30 minutes per game.
