Tottenham could hijack Man United’s move to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo following Thomas Frank’s appointment as manager.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about the 25-year-old’s future.

Frank’s arrival has added to the belief that Spurs could swoop ahead of United for his signature, but it would be a stunning development should the land a deal.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 9 June that Ruben Amorim’s side are closing in on Mbeumo and are expected to reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, sources say talks are ongoing with Brentford while the Cameroon international has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

Football Insider also revealed that United are willing to “break the bank” with a huge transfer fee and wages on offer to lure him in ahead of rival clubs.

Man United confident of beating Tottenham to Bryan Mbeumo

Football Insider revealed on 10 June that Frank is unlikely to raid Brentford for their best players despite links with moves for both Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.

Instead, Mbeumo is widely expected to join United in the coming weeks with the Red Devils expected to reach a compromise over a fee with the Bees.

O’Rourke explained that while Frank’s presence will be a draw for the forward, there is growing optimism at Old Trafford that a deal “will get done”.

“It’s going to be difficult to beat Man United to Mbeumo,” he told Football Insider.

“United are well down the line on this move, and the player himself wishes to make that move to Old Trafford rather than other potential clubs.

“Thomas Frank could be a big pull for Mbeumo, but United are very optimistic that they’ll be able to land the Cameroon international.

“They’ve had one bid rejected and talks are ongoing with Brentford.

“They just need to reach a compromise over his fee and then that deal will get done.

“The other factor is that Spurs won’t be able to match United on wages they could offer.

“So Man United are still in the driving seat to get this done, despite suggestions that Tottenham could hijack their move.”

Antoine Semenyo update emerges after Bryan Mbeumo twist

With Mbeumo seemingly heading north to Old Trafford, Spurs have set their sights on alternative targets including Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

Brown told Football Insider on 10 June that Tottenham will step up their pursuit of Semenyo, with United’s move for the Brentford man opening the door for Spurs.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that United would sign one of Mbeumo or Semenyo after holding preliminary talks with both Brentford and Bournemouth.

With their sights now firmly set on the former, Tottenham have been given a clear run at the Ghana international amid a growing belief they can reach an agreement.
