Arsenal look set to miss out on a move to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo as he is expected to remain at Los Blancos beyond the summer transfer window.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about the 24-year-old’s future.

Mikel Arteta’s side were among a number of clubs keeping a close eye on his situation, but following the appointment of Xabi Alonso, the Brazil international is happy to stay.

Football Insider revealed last month that Arsenal have been interested in Rodrygo, but were uncertain about paying his £85million asking price.

The winger had been considering quitting Madrid to play a bigger role elsewhere, but the arrival of Alonso has promised him a second chance at a starring role.

Liverpool have also been keeping tabs on Rodrygo in case he was made available by Los Blancos, but both clubs now look set to miss out.

Arsenal to miss out on Rodrygo after Real Madrid latest

Football Insider revealed on 18 May that Madrid could demand £100million for Rodrygo amid growing interest as the club aim to use the speculation to boost his fee.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal are set to enter the market for a marquee winger signing this summer, but will now be forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.

O’Rourke explained that the Brazil international is set to have a huge price tag on his head alongside huge wages which have deterred interested clubs.

“There has been lots of speculation over Rodrygo,” he told Football Insider.

“He was unhappy with his lack of playing time under Carlo Ancelotti last season, but it does seem that he is now content at Real Madrid.

“He’s happy to stay and looking forward to playing under the management of Xabi Alonso.

“There have been links with Arsenal, but as things stand the player is happy to stay at Madrid.

“He wants to stay and fight for his place in the team next season.

“If he was to leave Real Madrid, he’s going to have a huge price tag on his head and huge wages as well which will make it a difficult proposition for some clubs.

“I fully expect Rodrygo to stay at Madrid.”

Morgan Rogers update emerges at the Emirates

With Rodrygo seemingly no longer an option for the Gunners, they have set their sights on alternative targets including Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 12 June that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Rogers’ situation with a possible deal in mind.

Arsenal are planning to add more pace and directness into their side, and the England international has been earmarked among a number of targets who fit that bill.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal want to sign Eberechi Eze as Arteta wants to add more “X-factor” and attacking drive to his squad.
