What the press are saying about Wolves target Harvey Elliott after starring for England U21s

Harvey Elliott is one target on Wolves’ radar this summer, and he was in action for the England U21s on Thursday evening.

Elliott endured a tough campaign under Liverpool manager Arne Slot after starting just twice in the Premier League, resulting in rumours surrounding his future.

It emerged in May that Wolves were interested in Elliott, perhaps seeing him as someone who could fill the creative void of Pablo Sarabia in one of the number 10 roles.

Liverpool have valued Elliott at around £40 million, and many supporters feel that fee is too high for someone who has never hit double figures for goals in a single campaign at senior level.

After being snubbed regularly by Slot in 2024/25, Elliott admitted he doesn’t want to ‘waste his career’, in what could have been a subtle message for another club to sign him.

What the press said about Harvey Elliott’s display for England U21s vs Czech Republic

England kicked off their U21 Euro Championships with a convincing 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic, and it was the Liverpool starlet who opened the scoring.

Fuelled by the heartache of losing to Spain in the final two years ago, Elliott rifled a low strike past Lukas Hornicek in the 39th minute, before Jonathan Rowe and Charlie Cresswell completed the scoring.

The 22-year-old was deployed on the right wing by Lee Carsley, giving him the licence to cut inside and wreak havoc against the Czech defence.

Elliott was instrumental in everything positive England did going forward, most notably completing 46/51 accurate passes (90%), two key passes and two accurate long balls.

As a result, he was rated 7/10 by GOAL, who wrote: “Had some nice moments drifting inside from the right to combine with McAtee, though couldn’t quite unpick the lock with his passing. Strong finish to open the scoring.”

It was a promising performance from Elliott, who will be aiming to take such form into the final group games against Slovenia and Germany.

Vitor Pereira would love to work with Elliott

Wolves fans would be completely behind a transfer for the talented playmaker, but Liverpool’s £40 million valuation is putting them off.

Ultimately, he is one of the best young English talents, and if he were playing regular first-team football, he would surely be getting in Thomas Tuchel’s senior squad.

It’s just a shame that the asking price is too big for Wolves to justify paying for him, though if it were possible, Vitor Pereira would relish working with him.

Speaking about the Englishman in February 2024, Jurgen Klopp once said via This Is Anfield that Elliott is a ‘joy to work with’, demonstrating why the Wolves manager would love him too.

“There is a lot that he is already doing really well and there is a lot of potential still in him,” Klopp said.

“It is a joy to work with him but the two assists obviously helped a lot because he was flying through the week. Exceptional, absolutely exceptional how he trained this week.

Pereira has taken pride in developing young players during his time at Molineux, including Rodrigo Gomes and Mateus Mane, with Elliott potentially joining that list.
