German outlet Kicker has confirmed that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz arrives at Anfield as one of European football’s most coveted young talents.
His international career with Germany has been impressive, despite being just 22 years old.
He made headlines at UEFA Euro 2024 by becoming the youngest German player to score in the European Championship, netting the tournament opener against Scotland aged 21 years and 42 days.
He has 29 caps for the German national team.
Andy Robertson was impressed with his tournament last summer, and mentioned Wirtz’s performance against Scotland at Euro 2024 this week:
“He was excellent against us [Scotland vs Germany], I do remember that and I remember that game was extremely tough for us,” Robertson said.
“He was excellent, he was the one causing us problems, in the half-spaces, running in behind, so I haven’t seen too much of him but I have played against him and that was enough for me to see he was going to be a top player.”
“Obviously we played Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League as well and we dominated that game a bit more and made it difficult but certainly in the German team against us, he was excellent.”
And now, for the first, the German outlet Kicker – who have been spot on with this story all summer – have confirmed a deal has been struck between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen.
The reliable Stephan von Nocks states deal is agreed for a fee of around 150 million euros:
“Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool FC is a done deal. The Reds have reached an agreement with Bayer 04 on the transfer fee. The English have put together a package including bonuses of around 150 million euros.”
He added that German is currently on holiday, and will have to complete his medical before the papers can be signed:
“However, Wirtz, who is currently on holiday, still has to complete the obligatory medical check at LFC.”
“After the agreement between Liverpool FC and Bayer 04, the contract papers in German and English still have to be finalised, checked and signed. Then both the most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history and the Premier League will be perfect.”
Florian Wirtz is set to earn approximately £355,000 per week at Liverpool as part of a five-year contract, making him one of the highest-paid players at the club.
The German international is expected to report for pre-season at the AXA on 7 July and make his debut in the first friendly of pre-season against Preston North End later next month on the 13th.
