Club set €40m price tag for former Gunner with sell-on clause

Lazio have set a €40m price tag for the transfer of Nuno Tavares this summer, with Arsenal set to profit from a sell-on clause if anyone agrees to meet it.

Alfredo Pedulla reports that after rejecting a recent bid from Al Hilal, Lazio have set a €40m price tag for Nuno Tavares. The high asking price is in part due to Arsenal’s sell-on clause, with Lazio aware that they’ll have to pass on a large portion of the proceeds.

The exact value of the clause has been debated, with some English sources claiming it’s 25% but Pedulla among the Italian sources putting it closer to 40%.

Lazio have already sent some money Arsenal’s way this summer, having paid the Gunners to make Tavares’ loan deal permanent for around £7m.

Al Hilal’s initial bid for Tavares was around €30m (£25.3m), comprised of a €25m (£21.1m) guaranteed fee plus bonuses. The offer was deemed unconvincing and quickly turned down.

If Lazio’s demands are met, Arsenal should earn at least an extra €10m (£8.5m), assuming a 25% sell-on clause. If it’s actually 40%, a €40m sale would net the Gunners €16m (£13.7m).

And that’s all on top of the £7m the club have already banked. All in all, Tavares’ sale is looking like a profitable one for his former club.

Tavares made 30 appearances for Lazio in 2024/25, providing nine assists. A number of muscular injuries held him back from featuring more regularly, but it was still a positive campaign overall.

Arsenal and Lazio are both seemingly hoping to cash in on the 25-year-old’s progress now.
