Report: Luis Diaz's transfer situation at Liverpool has now totally changed

Liverpool have already gone through a lot of changes this summer, with plenty more seeming to be on the horizon.

The Anfield outfit were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last season, with Arne Slot’s men cruising towards the title.

As has been the case at Liverpool for as long as many can remember, they’ve often stuck it out with the same or similar players each term and have made minimal changes to their squad.

In the 2025-26 season, however, Slot seems to have broken that mould by already bringing in Jeremie Frimpong and getting rid of Caoimhin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The futures of many of their first-team squad are still up in the air, with Luis Diaz’s next step the talk of the town at the moment.

Liverpool are now ‘open’ to negotiating with Barcelona for the transfer of Luis Diaz

As mentioned, the future of Diaz has been under the spotlight throughout the last couple of weeks.

Barcelona are the ones who are most likely to make a move for the Colombia international, with a new report from Spanish outlet Diario Sport outlining where both teams are currently at regarding his transfer.

The report outlines that the transfer of Diaz is set to ‘gain momentum’ next week with Liverpool now ‘open to start a negotiation’ with Hansi Flick’s team.

Diario Sport also add that next season, Diaz ‘would not’ be a part of Slot’s starting 11 should he stay at Anfield this season.

When Luis Diaz’s transfer to Barcelona could be finalised

Diaz is Barcelona’s priority target this summer, with the Catalan outfit looking to bring in a new left-winger in order to allow Raphinha to play in a more central role.

The Colombia international only has two years left on his contract with Liverpool, so the 2025-26 summer transfer window is the last time that the Reds will likely be able to get a decent fee for him, especially after the performances he put in last term.

Later on in the same report from Diario Sport, the Spanish outlet relays that although there was some ‘uncertainty’ regarding the transfer, ‘everything’ now indicates that a deal could be done by the end of June or early July at the latest.

Not only is this a significant U-turn regarding the Reds’ stance on Diaz, but it also demonstrates Liverpool’s eagerness to complete most of their business as soon as possible.

Indeed, only time will tell what the future holds, but for now, it feels like Diaz is more out than in at Anfield.
