According to Bulls insider K.C. Johnson, the Knicks requested permission to interview Chicago head coach Billy Donovan for their vacancy, but the request was rejected.
This denial adds to a growing list of setbacks for New York. Per Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Knicks have now been blocked from speaking with several current NBA head coaches, including Donovan, Ime Udoka (Rockets), Chris Finch (Timberwolves), Quin Snyder (Hawks), and Jason Kidd (Mavericks).
Amick also notes that the Knicks have not reached out to any additional current head coaches recently.
As of now, they have not made requests to speak with Rick Carlisle (Pacers), Steve Kerr (Warriors), Doc Rivers (Bucks), Tyronn Lue (Clippers), or JJ Redick (Lakers).
With limited options among active head coaches, the Knicks are reportedly shifting focus toward two experienced candidates who are currently available and do not require permission: Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins.
Additionally, there are reports that former Knicks head coach Mike Woodson is also in consideration for a potential return.
