Gabriel Urges Arsenal To Sign£68m“Phenomenon”This Summer Despite Chelsea Links

Arsenal centre-back Gabriel has urged the club to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer.

The Gunners are set to sign a wide player this season, as Mikel Arteta aims to add some depth up front, to ease the pressure on Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli, who both suffered injuries last season.

They have been linked to several wingers including Nico Williams, Rodrygo, and Leroy Sane, the latter is due to join Turkish side Galatasaray on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

However, Williams and Rodrygo both remain viable options, with Williams having a £48m release clause in his contract at Athletic Bilbao, and Rodrygo expected to cost around £68m, which is a hefty fee.

It is not clear yet as to which winger the Gunners are likely to make an official move for, however, Arsenal defender Gabriel has made his feelings very clear on the matter. Whilst on international duty with Brazil, the centre-back told Brazilian Podcast PodPah that Arteta should go out an sign Madrid winger Rodrygo.

He said: “I don’t know, but I’d like [it] obviously. He’s a phenomenon. I’ve told people already, he’s a phenomenon. If it was up to me, of course!” The pair play together for the national team, and Gabriel is now hoping that the 24-year-old will come to the Emirates.

The Brazilian international has also been linked with Premier League rivals Chelsea, however, it is understood that the Blues are prioritising a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.

What is Real Madrid’s stance on Rodrygo?

The Brazilian winger made 44 appearances for Real Madrid last term, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. However, the La Liga giants now have a new manager in Xabi Alonso, and Rodrygo’s future remains uncertain.

A report by the Standard quoted Alonso, after saying that Rodrygo is set to undergo talks with the new Madrid boss regarding his future in the coming weeks.

“He’s a Madrid player and I will have a conversation with everyone because we need to do so,” Alonso said last month. “We’ll get to know each other. He’s a spectacular player and we need him.”
