Jacob Murphy names two Newcastle United stars alongside Mohamed Salah as the 'best in the world'

Jacob Murphy was brilliant for Newcastle United in the 2024/25 campaign, but he has taken the time to compare two of his teammates to the likes of Mohamed Salah.

After a tough few years on Tyneside, very few could have predicted what the winger was going to achieve last season.

It was a breakout campaign that saw him become Eddie Howe’s undisputed first-choice right winger at Newcastle United, with goals and assists coming thick and fast.

Jacob Murphy has been labelled as underrated after the season he had, which saw him score eight goals and bag 12 assists in the Premier League alone. His form towards the end of the season even saw him in contention for a first-ever England call-up, but Thomas Tuchel ultimately opted against it.

Alexander Isak named Murphy as Newcastle’s Player of the Season after the pair formed a partnership that at times looked unbreakable. The Swede also recognised how much Murphy had helped him throughout the campaign.

While Newcastle players give Murphy his flowers for a truly remarkable season, the 30-year-old has named two of his teammates as the best in the world, thanks to their form throughout the campaign.

Jacob Murphy names Alexander Isak and Tino Livramento as the best in the world in their positions

Very few could have predicted the success Tino Livramento would have at left-back, but he has made it work after being moved from his natural right-back position to play there. The 22-year-old was sensational in the latter part of the season, helping the Magpies qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the season.

His good run of form has not stopped either. Livramento won the Player of the Match award for his efforts against the Czech Republic in the Under-21 European Championships on Thursday night, where he bagged an assist.

Man City fans want to sign Livramento, but they will be forced to pay a hefty sum after learning that Murphy believes his teammate is the best left-back in the world.

In a video with GOAL, Murphy was asked to name the best players in the world for several positions. For the right wing, he named Mohamed Salah, and for the striker, he named fellow teammate Isak.

The 25-year-old Swede had his best season with Newcastle since signing in 2022, scoring 27 goals in all competitions.

Jacob Murphy set for a rude awakening at Newcastle United next season

After a brilliant season, Murphy will now be keen to kick on and work his way into the England squad. Teammate Harvey Barnes was willing to sign a petition for Murphy to play for England, but it seemed like the cries were all in vain.

While Murphy wants to push on next season, there is a good chance that his progress will come to a halt based on Newcastle’s transfer plans.

Howe wants to sign a new right winger for Newcastle, putting Murphy’s place in the starting XI in jeopardy. This comes even after Newcastle confirmed the signing of Antonio Cordero, who will be loaned out for his first season.

Newcastle were interested in Bryan Mbeumo, but talks were met with outlandish wage demands from the 25-year-old, which the Magpies were not willing to meet. The search for a new right-wing option continues, which can only spell bad news for Murphy.
