Tottenham could be about to hijack a move for a reported Manchester United target.

Tottenham are now being linked with a transfer hijack involving one of Thomas Frank’s favourites after the Danish boss was confirmed as the new manager at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs did not hesitate in prioritising Frank after sacking Ange Postecoglou, and they have not got their man, luring him from Brentford.

Frank impressed on a consistent basis with limited resources at Brentford, and he will now have the chance to test his abilities at a higher level in North London, especially with Tottenham having qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Spurs need to improve the quality and depth in their squad significantly this summer if they are going to compete well in the Champions League while also contending for the European spots in the Premier League. As part of that, Frank will want to put his stamp on this squad, and it’s reported he is keen to add a favourite of his from Brentford.

Bryan Mbuemo, who is heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, is now reportedly of interest to Tottenham, and it’s claimed by Sky Sports that talks have already taken place. It’s reported that Mbuemo is getting increasingly interested in linking up with Frank at Tottenham, who have that carrot of Champions League football to offer.

The links should come as no surprise, with Frank saying previously of Mbuemo when he and Yann Wissa hit 18 and 16 goals respectively: “That's an incredible achievement from the two of them," Frank said after Mbeumo scored two and Wissa one against Brighton. All praise due the two of them for the hard work, how much they push, and then of course to my staff, and then I think a little bit to the way we play.”

The Dane added: “I'm very happy that he's shining. It's a duo, of course, him and Wissa. Wissa is fantastic. He has scored actually more open-play goals than Brian still. But Brian is the penalty taker, unbelievable at penalties, assists, work ethic, an unbelievable player."

Frank deal confirmed

Confirming Frank’s appointment, Tottenham posted in a statement: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Thomas Frank as our new Head Coach on a contract that runs until 2028.

“Thomas has extensive experience in English football having joined Brentford in 2016 - since becoming one of the longest-serving current managers in the Premier League. During his time at Brentford he transformed the Club, moving them up from the Championship to an established Premier League side, consistently and significantly outperforming expectations for an extended period of time.

“In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game. He has a proven track record in player and squad development and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead. Thomas will be joined from Brentford by Justin Cochrane (First Team Assistant Coach), Chris Haslam (Head of Performance & First Team Assistant Coach) and Joe Newton (First Team Coach Analyst), with Andreas Georgson (First Team Assistant Coach) arriving from Manchester United.”
