Everton target Walter Benitez has made a transfer decision ahead of the summer.

The Argentina international has faced interest from the Toffees and FA Cup winners Crystal Palace moving into the upcoming window.

The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer after departing the Eredivisie at the end of his contract at league champions PSV Eindhoven.

It now appears that Benitez wants to be the number one after choosing where his future lies, ready for the new Premier League campaign.

As it stands, David Moyes will be keen on bringing in at least one new goalkeeper after already parting ways with his two understudies.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Asmir Begovic looks set for a Bosnian homecoming, while Joao Virginia is on the lookout for a new club after ending his seven-year spell at Goodison.

This leaves the Scottish head coach with very limited options in the squad, especially if injuries are to strike in the coming months of the season.

Although Jordan Pickford represents an excellent number one, any new keeper that comes in will be keen on grabbing that shirt.

That is certainly the case for Benitez, with Alan Nixon reporting (13 June) that the Argentine wants to join Crystal Palace to battle Dean Henderson to be the first choice at Selhurst Park.

This decision has been made as Benitez felt as if his Everton minutes would be limited by the England international shot stopper moving forward.

It looks like it is going to be difficult for the Toffees to land a new keeper with the former Sunderland man keeping up such a positive level of form.

Benitez would have represented an excellent signing on a free transfer, but he is clearly in demand of regular minutes as his contract looks set to expire.

This represents a blow to the Hill Dickinson Stadium club, who will have to look into new options after once again being rebuffed.

Sheffield United number one Mike Cooper has also made the same decision as the Argentine, which won’t be music to Moyes’ ears at all.
