Report: Man Utd now in talks to sign 'unbelievable' £400,000-a-week star instead of Gyokeres

Manchester United have reopened talks to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but he wants £400,000-a-week to join, according to Footmercato.

The Red Devils are in the transfer market for a new striker this summer as Ruben Amorim is desperate to strengthen his squad after a horrific campaign in 2024/25 where they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost in the Europa League final.

But their financial issues have seen them struggle to lock down a target for the number nine position, with Liam Delap opting to join Chelsea instead due to them having Champions League football in the upcoming season.

After missing out on Delap, Man Utd have shown a strong interest in Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, but their lack of Champions League football is once again an issue - as is the asking price and fact Arsenal are in the race.

As a result, INEOS have now re-opened talks with Napoli and Osimhen's camp about a move for the Nigeria international, who has been described as 'unbelievable' following his excellent loan spell with Galatasaray last season.

Napoli are demanding the full £64m release clause be paid in order to seal a deal, but Osimhen also is demanding a net salary of €12m, which works out at around £400,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

It's unclear if United would be willing to meet those numbers, but talks are ongoing about a deal, and as it stands, nothing is off the table.

Osimhen already rejected an insane financial package to move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal this summer as he wants to play at the highest level, but it's also been reported that he is keen on a move to the Premier League, which has left the door open for Man Utd to bring him in.
