Sir Jim Ratcliffe is finding himself in hot water as the Manchester United co-owner is being sued by one of The Red Devils’ Premier League rivals.
The INEOS owner has been with Old Trafford for just over a year now and it’s not been an easy period.
Whilst trying to make the club financially sustainable, Ratcliffe has been undertaking some highly controversial cost-cutting measures.
These have included ticker price hikes, mass redundancies, and cutting funding to associated groups, amongst other things.
However, United aren’t the only ones trying to reduce their outgoings, with INEOS also doing the same.
Earlier this year New Zealand Rugby took legal action against INEOS who breached their contract by withholding payments to pull out of their six-year deal two years early.
The British company was the performance partner for the All Blacks, however the two parties have since come to an agreement.

Now, The Telegraph has reported that Tottenham Hotspur are now taking legal action against INEOS Automotive Limited as the organisation attempted to withdraw from their sponsorship agreement two years early.
INEOS and Spurs entered a multi-million pound deal for five years starting in December 2022, setting up the INEOS Grenadier car as the London-based club’s “official 4×4 vehicle partner”.
However, since last February, shortly after Ratcliffe took charge at Old Trafford, INEOS have been talking about pulling out of the agreement.
It’s understood that attempts to find an agreement have failed, with Spurs lodging a claim against the firm on 12th June 2025.
INEOS has previously addressed their move to end several sponsorship deals, putting their need to cut costs down to the issue that “trading conditions for our European businesses have been severely impacted by high energy costs and extreme carbon taxes”.
