Manchester United’s past continues to echo through global headlines, as former icons find new ventures beyond the pitch.
While the Red Devils are busy reshaping their squad under Ruben Amorim, with incomings and outgoings dominating the transfer window, several former players are quietly building empires away from football.
David De Gea, one of United’s most beloved goalkeepers in recent history, has made a name for himself in the world of esports with his successful team, Rebels Gaming, which continues to grow its profile across Europe.

As esports booms worldwide, United’s influence reaches into arenas far from Old Trafford – and now another club legend has stepped into the digital limelight.
Cristiano Ronaldo, the iconic No. 7 who lit up Old Trafford across two unforgettable spells, has been unveiled as the new Global Ambassador for the Esports World Cup.
The Portuguese forward confirmed the announcement via his official social media channels, saying: “I’m proud to join the Esports World Cup as Global Ambassador – standing with esports athletes who rise above and inspire the next generation.”
The 2025 Esports World Cup is scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 8 to 21 July, and Ronaldo’s involvement signals a new chapter in his already multifaceted career.

While Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed that he will continue to play first-team football for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr at the age of 40, Ronaldo’s off-pitch interests are expanding rapidly, with esports now becoming a serious focus.
His commitment to gaming isn’t new – he’s worked as an ambassador for Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer and has backed the launch of the Japanese football game UFL.
Earlier this year, he was even announced as a playable character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, one of the featured titles at the World Cup.
With De Gea already managing his own professional esports team and Ronaldo now fronting one of the biggest gaming events on the planet, Manchester United’s legacy players are proving they can still set trends – even if they’re no longer setting them at the Theatre of Dreams.
