Liverpool have agreed a club-record £116 million deal (or approximately €140 million) with Bayer Leverkusen for German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, according to widespread reports.

The 22-year-old playmaker is scheduled to undergo his medical examination next week after returning from his holiday, with the procedure expected to take place after Wednesday.

Wirtz is currently on vacation following Germany’s UEFA Nations League duties.

The German international has agreed to a five-year contract at Anfield running until 2030, and he will reportedly earn somewhere in the region of £340,000-£355,000 per week.

This salary would make him Liverpool’s third-highest paid player behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

All documents are currently being finalized and signed by both parties, with only the formalities of a medical examination and contract signing remaining.

Now BILD has revealed the precise breakdown of the structure of the deal, with journalists Axel Hessian and Phillip Arens reporting:

“According to BILD and SPORT BILD information, the transfer fee of 140 million euros is divided as follows: around 125 million euros have been firmly agreed,” they wrote.

“A further 15 million euros beckon with realistic bonus targets. On top of that, 10 million euros could be added if hard-to-reach goals, such as a Champions League victory, are achieved.”

When completed, Wirtz’s move will establish multiple transfer records across European football.

The deal surpasses the previous British transfer record held by Moises Caicedo’s £115 million move to Chelsea from Brighton in 2023.

For Liverpool, it obliterates their previous club record of £85 million paid for Darwin Nunez in 2022.

The transfer will also make Wirtz the most expensive German player in history.

Liverpool successfully fought off significant competition from European giants Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Real Madrid to secure Wirtz’s signature.

Manchester City withdrew from the race in May after determining the financial commitment required was too substantial

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl publicly acknowledged their inability to match Liverpool’s financial offer, stating: “If I’m being honest, I don’t know if we could have matched what Liverpool are apparently paying now.”

With the fee agreed between clubs, Wirtz is now free to finalize personal terms with Liverpool, though these are not expected to present any obstacles.

The player will undergo his medical examination next week following his return from a post-season holiday.
