The Los Angeles Rams’ former undrafted free agent, Alaric Jackson, has developed into a standout blindside protector for Matthew Stafford ever since he took over as the full-time starting left tackle in 2023. He arguably had his best season as a pro in 2024, allowing 22 pressures, four quarterback hits, and three sacks in 14 starts while posting a 79.5 pass-blocking grade, a 75.9 run-blocking grade, and a 78.3 PFF grade, all ranking in the top 25 for qualified offensive tackles. The Rams rewarded Jackson with a three-year, $57 million extension.
However, he has some health concerns.

Alaric Jackson started experiencing symptoms and was diagnosed with blood clots in November during the 2022 season. As a result, the Rams placed him on season-ending injured reserve, where he spent the last nine games. Jackson didn’t experience any recurring symptoms of blood clots in 2023 and 2024, starting 32 regular-season and playoff games.
Unfortunately, he suffered another setback.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Alaric Jackson started experiencing blood clots again in June. He is expected to miss next week’s mandatory minicamp and the start of training camp, which begins in late July. As Rapoport points out, the initial belief is that Jackson will play in the 2025 season, but “there are still questions.”

On Thursday night, the Rams signed D.J. Humphries to a contract. The veteran left tackle spent the first nine years of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, starting 99 regular-season and playoff games, including a Pro Bowl selection in 2021. After missing the first half of the 2024 season to recover from last season’s ACL tear, Humphries spent the remainder of the year with the Kansas City Chiefs, starting two games, but dealt with a hamstring injury later and finished as the backup tackle.
