Championship new boys Wrexham have been informed that it would take them being in the Premier League to attract former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba to their club this summer.
The Red Dragons are currently building their squad for the second tier having completed a miraculous three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship. Funded by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham find themselves needing to bolster their squad for what could be a tough campaign.
With Wrexham now in the second league in English football, the club has been linked with some big-money moves including former Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney and ex-Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy. However, one free agent who could be considered a target ahead of the new season is Pogba.
The Frenchman is currently without a club after his contract at Juventus was cancelled by mutual consent in January. Pogba finished his 18-month suspension from football in March, having tested positive for the banned substance DHEA - this sentence was reduced after it was found, on review, that Pogba did not take the banned substance purposefully.
Since then, a new club for the 31-year-old has not been forthcoming and while Pogba dreams of playing for the French national team again, that desire currently seems a long way off. Former Premier League winger Florent Malouda was asked by bet365 at the launch of their Club World Championship Tournament Predictor game whether Wrexham is a viable option for his fellow countryman.
Malouda was adamant that Wrexham are not currently playing at the standard which Pogba is requiring to end his career on a high. "I cannot speak on Paul Pogba’s behalf, but if I was him after such a long time away from the pitch, it’s about building back his confidence," Malouda explained.

"You look into the environment, where you will receive the confidence, the love. He needs to be surrounded by people who believe and trust him – that it is necessary.
"Firstly, he has to adjust physically to the intensity of the games. He doesn't know how his body will react.
"So I think a move in clubs like Wrexham wouldn't help him achieve what he has in mind. I definitely believe that he wants to play the next World Cup with France.
"He wants to lead France in the World Cup. It would be too risky for his career because there would be too much pressure on his shoulders, too much expectation individually – he needs to join a team with a strong collective already."
