Matheus Cunha has undergone his very first interview since officially joining Manchester United.
Fans have known about the Brazilian’s arrival for weeks, but there is still plenty of excitement, which speaks to the quality that he possesses.
Manchester United announced Matheus Cunha was a done deal on Thursday, almost two weeks after it was announced that a deal had been agreed.
After the announcement, Jason Wilcox was quick to heap praise onto Cunha, admitting that the 26-year-old had all the qualities that United were looking for in a signing this summer.
Cunha described the United move as a dream, and he will walk through the same tunnel as some of the greatest players of all time.
Having admitted his fandom of United as a youngster, Cunha revealed that he idolised one Old Trafford legend in particular and sees himself as being a similar player.

Matheus Cunha on growing up watching Wayne Rooney
On Friday, United club media released an interview in which Cunha sat down with Danny Webber to discuss all things United and the move. During this, Cunha was asked about his past following the club.
Cunha told a brilliant story about only being able to watch United games when he was at his Grandmother’s house with his cousins, and they were all supporting the Red Devils.

When asked if any players from this time stuck out in his mind, Cunha instantly named Wayne Rooney.
“I remember the whole squad from the time when I started to watch. You know, in the front there was Rooney, wow.
“[He is] Someone I think I have a lot of [similarities with] in my game, because I always give everything.
“I remember he was the number 10 on his shirt and everyone loved the skills, but he brings more, he always goes to the grass to take the ball, and you know he has a lot of energy inside him.”
Cunha will follow in Rooney’s footsteps by wearing the number 10 shirt at United. Which, combined with his talent, skills, and work rate, could have fans thinking it is the second coming of Rooney in the form of a Brazilian.
Cunha recalls Manchester United’s 2007/08 Champions League-winning side
Not only did Cunha pick out Rooney for praise, but he also went on to list half of the 2008 Champions League-winning side, with multiple leaving him in awe.

“Ryan Giggs… everyone. I can imagine the team you know, Van der Sar in goal, wow.
“Rio Ferdinand and Vidic as the defenders, I know.. Paul Scholes, wow, and Carrick.”
It is safe to say that Cunha is a fan just like us, and it was evident with the smile he had on his face during the entire interview.
There is a special feeling around Cunha, and it seems inevitable that he becomes an absolute superstar for United… but we won’t have to wait long to find out whether he will.
