Arsenal are yet to get off the mark in the transfer market this summer at a time when their Premier League rivals are incredibly active. Having seen Manchester City splash the cash on four new additions, including highly-rated duo Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, Liverpool are about to shell out £116million on Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
That is on top of deals for his former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Very much the two main rivals to Arsenal when it comes to the Premier League title race, supporters are desperate for the Gunners to bring new signings in through the door at the Emirates Stadium.
All the talk so far this summer has been about a deal for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and then a big-money move for either Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres. Amid Arsenal's lack of a proven striker who can find the net game after game, their final choice when it comes to the duo could prove crucial to their aspirations come May.
Sesko, who is reportedly valued at £92.5million by his club, enjoyed a good season for RB Leipzig and contributed with 21 goals and six assists in 45 appearances. Thirteen of those goals came in the Bundesliga, with former Tottenham man Harry Kane the league's top goalscorer with 26 goals.
Sesko may not be the most prolific goalscorer just yet but the talent is very much there. At 22 years of age, most importantly, there is still so much more to come from him and Mikel Arteta and his coaching team can undoubtedly take him to greater levels altogether.
Gyokeres, on the other hand, is very much a goalscorer. His record since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City proves that point.
A total of 97 goals from 102 games is an outrageous tally and this summer will surely see him depart Portugal for a new challenge elsewhere. It is perhaps a surprise that he is still a Sporting player after hitting 43 goals in his debut season for the club.
When it comes to Gyokeres and the reported £68million asking price to prise him away, some question whether a club should be paying anywhere near that figure given he is scoring his goals in Portugal. Maybe not quite at the level of the Premier League and La Liga, the Swede is still demonstrating that he knows where the back of the net is.
He is quite simply a goalscorer, which is the one thing Arsenal are crying out for. Had they had that goalscorer in their possession then the last two seasons may have panned out very differently under Arteta in their quest to win trophies.
It is also worth remembering that he does more than just score goals due to his strength, running power and ability to create chances for his teammates.
As it is not clear yet whether Andrea Berta and Arsenal will go all out for Sesko or Gyokeres, a look at their respective records over the past few years should guide them towards the striker they move for. However, for some, many may point to the latter's record at Coventry City and Sporting CP and question the level of the league.
Create chances for him, though, and he will take them. The last two seasons in Portugal shows that.
Arsenal are desperate for a goalscorer and Gyokeres just needs that opportunity to show he can do it in one of Europe's top leagues. Whether it will be at Arsenal or elsewhere remains to be seen.
The last thing the Gunners want come May is a question of "what if" hanging over them.
