West Ham United have had a nightmare against Liverpool forward Luis Diaz in the 2024/25 campaign.

The attacker netted in both Premier League games against the Hammers as they once again struggled against the Reds.

At the London Stadium, Diaz netted the opener as Liverpool cruised to a 5-0 victory.

In the reverse fixture, the Colombian international scored the opening goal once again as Graham Potter’s side fell to a late defeat.

However, the nightmare may finally be ending for West Ham as an opportunity opens up for Barcelona.

West Ham’s signing of Jean-Clair Todibo could see Diaz depart Liverpool

West Ham confirmed the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo in June, as per the terms of his original loan arrangement with Nice.

The defender has had an interesting career to date, playing at both Barcelona and Nice before his permanent move to the London club.

With West Ham paying £32.8million for Todibo, the fee reflected his past experiences.

As a result, European giants Barcelona also netted £6.7m from Todibo’s transfer due to a sell-on clause from his move to Nice.

Now, Mundo Deportivo’s print edition (13 June) reports that these additional funds will help give the Catalan club more financial room to operate in the transfer market.

Diaz has been on Liverpool’s radar for a while, and the same report indicates a move could now be on that the financial shackles have been released somewhat.

Todibo will be expected to step up next season

Now that Todibo’s move to West Ham is permanent, he will be expected to step up in the upcoming campaign.

The centre-back was at the heart of an awful Hammers defence this season that shipped 62 Premier League goals.

Todibo was often criticised for his poor attitude at West Ham, and this will need to end if the Hammers want to move away from the relegation zone.

Hopefully, Potter will be able to get the best out of the 25-year-old next season and help him reach his potential.
