Ex-NFL star who endorsed Trump is wanted for attempted murder

Social media users were quick to mock President Donald Trump after authorities are seeking to arrest one of his supporters on an attempted murder charge, according to a warrant obtained by The Washington Post Thursday night.

The warrant shows that Antonio Brown, a former NFL wide receiver, has a charge of attempted murder with a firearm tied to a shooting at a celebrity boxing event in Miami, Florida, last month. The warrant, signed by a judge on Wednesday, also asks Brown to post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest until trial, The Post reported.

Brown — who has also faced a warrant for domestic violence, which has since been dropped, and has been accused of sexual assault and arrested for allegedly failing to pay child support — endorsed Trump for president at a rally in Pennsylvania last October during the 2024 election cycle. He and former running back Le’veon Bell stood on stage with the president, with Brown wearing a red MAGA hat. He could be heard telling the president that he “loved him.”

“Let’s vote for Trump, baby!” Brown yelled during the rally. “Make some noise for the president!”

“I know the media is going to call me crazy, me and Trump crazy for having me speaking here, but I want to make this clear — we are not, they are,” he also said, and began to laugh among cheers.

Following the news, social media users pointed to Trump’s ties to the former Pittsburgh Steelers player on X on Friday.

Ron Filipkowski, the editor-in-chief of the MeidasTouch, posted an image of Trump and Brown with the caption “Started / Going.”

A user responded, asking “Will TACO pardon him?” in reference to Wall Street’s “Trump Always Chickens Out” acronym to describe the president’s back and forth on tariffs.

“Trump has a habit of running with degenerates,” someone wrote.

One user said: “Pardon incoming...he’ll be the next labor secretary.”

“Trump: I never met him,” another user wrote.

Brown, who is a frequent poster on X, has remained silent since the report was published. It is unclear if he has already been detained or placed on house arrest.

According to the warrant, officers had responded to gunshots outside of the boxing venue in the Little Haiti neighborhood on May 16. An off-duty officer who was working security said he left the event and saw Brown, who was involved in a physical confrontation with a man. The warrant says that people in the parking lot told officers that Brown was the shooter, but also indicates that he did not have a weapon when patted down by officers. They found two shell casings and an empty gun holster, according to The Post.

The warrant also says that Miami police detectives later obtained video footage of Brown appearing to take a gun from a security officer and run toward the man, who he previously punched.

Brown was released that night, and in a later post on X, he wrote that he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.”
