Adult Swim Anounces New Animated Comedy Series With Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones As Major…

Adult Swim announced that it has an upcoming adult animated show titled Keeping Up with the Joneses that will feature Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones as a main character. Adult Swim has long been a juggernaut of the adult animation genre, and it's responsible for some of the best adult animated shows of the last decade and even earlier. From classics like Robot Chicken to the ongoing hit Rick and Morty season 8, Adult Swim consistently produces great and unique bits of adult animation. Adult Swim's next adult animated project seeks to keep that trend going.

Now, Adult Swim has confirmed a new series, Keeping Up with the Joneses , which will follow the Newberry family as they "try to 'keep up' with their staggeringly wealthy Dallas neighbors - including the one next door, Jerry Jones ." The title is presumably a play on the idiom of the same wording, which means to buy expensive things for the sake of image. The series was created by Hugh Davidson (Robot Chicken, Mike Tyson Mysteries), Rachel Ramras, and Larry Dorf, who previously created The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window together.

It's Difficult To Predict How Keeping Up With The Joneses Will Be Received, But It Could Draw In New Viewers For Adult Swim

The very nature of Adult Swim's adult animated shows makes it very hard to predict what Keeping Up with the Joneses will be like. The series could be a fairly standard sitcom that sees the Newberry family getting into progressively more ridiculous situations while trying to match the immense wealth of Jerry Jones and his family, akin to King of the Hill. Alternatively, Keeping Up with the Joneses* could be completely unpredictable and much more absurdist than expected, in the same vein as Adult Swim shows like *Smiling Friends. The premise alone isn't enough to tell what Adult Swim has in store for Keeping Up with the Joneses.

Some cartoons feel like they could keep going until the end of time, be they adult animated comedies or lovingly-rendered educational kids' shows.

Keeping Up with the Joneses may also have a baked-in audience that could help Adult Swim gain popularity. Jerry Jones is a massive celebrity, especially in Dallas and other parts of the Southern United States. Jones also recently had a cameo in Landman, Taylor Sheridan's drama series, which has expanded his persona even further. Jones won't voice his own character in Keeping Up with the Joneses (via THR) but the character based on him may be enough to draw in viewers from Texas and Cowboys fans. That could open a whole new market for Adult Swim and be an opportunity to introduce a whole new audience to adult animation.

Our Take On Adult Swim's Next Adult Animated Comedy Series

Keeping Up With The Joneses Proves One Thing: Adult Swim Cannot Be Predicted

As unpredictable as Keeping Up with the Joneses is at this juncture, it is, strangely enough, predictable in its unpredictability. Adult Swim never repeats itself, and it always has something completely unique and original up its sleeves: Keeping Up with the Joneses is proof of that. It's also a sign that the company isn't trying to recapture the magic of Rick and Morty, its most popular show in recent years, and is still willing to take a chance on completely novel concepts. I find that extremely refreshing in an increasingly unoriginal streaming landscape, and I'm glad Adult Swim is still willing to take chances like Keeping Up with the Joneses.
