"Liverpool can already put away their checkbooks" because French superstar won't be joining

Liverpool’s record-setting summer transfer window has blown supporters away and some believe that it will continue to get even more impressive.

As it is, the Reds are set to make Jeremie Frimpong (already signed), Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez their first three summer signings and that alone would be an incredible way for Arne Slot to defend his Premier League crown.

Even if there were no more signings after that point, Liverpool would be well-poised to defend their title or at least match the improvements that it seems possible for Arsenal and Manchester City to make in the market this summer.

Yet, reports today claim that Liverpool are not stopping there and still plan to recruit a new striker and centre-back at least.

Should Luis Diaz leave for Barcelona or Saudi Arabia however, there will be another necessary signing to be made.

Of course, Florian Wirtz is capable of playing on the left wing but you don’t sign a £116m superstar to play anywhere other than where he is best and the German simply isn’t a winger.

He can do wondrous things in those areas but he is by no means a chalk on the boots wideman.

Which is where PSG’s Bradley Barcola would make a quite brilliant signing for Slot and Liverpool.

Bradley Barcola is at the top of Liverpool and Bayern Munich’s wish list but signing him will by no means be easy

Can Liverpool test Barcola’s desire to play understudy to Kvicha Kvaratshkelia?

In the 2024/25 campaign, Barcola scored 21 goals and assisted 19, for a total of 40 goal involvements at the age of 22 and has caught the eye of every top club in Europe especially after winning the Champions League final.

Also a two-time league and cup champion after lifting Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France this season and last, Barcola is set to enjoy a hugely decorated career and Liverpool want to be the club that continues his success, reports Foot Mercato.

They report Bayern and Liverpool are seriously interested and view the Lyon-born baller as a starter but PSG consider him to be “untransferrable” and is “an integral part of Luis Enrique’s plan” for the Parisians.

To make the prospect of signing Barcola even bleaker for Liverpool and Bayern, he is said to be “keen to continue” his fairytale career with PSG with Foot Mercato reporting that “Bayern Munich and Liverpool can already put away their checkbooks, PSG isn’t selling, and the player won’t be leaving this summer.”

So, if Liverpool do wind up needing a left-winger to replace Diaz this summer, it doesn’t seem likely Barcola is their man short of a Wirtz-esque investment.

Nice to dream, though.
