The sensational return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United in 2021/22 sparked a wave of excitement across the football world.
Despite appearing close to joining noisy neighbours Manchester City, the Portuguese returned back to the red side of Manchester.
Reuniting with the club where he became a global icon, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was expected to spearhead a new era under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But despite a promising start, Ronaldo struggled to truly settle back into life at Old Trafford.

Instability across three managerial reigns – first Ole, then Ralf Rangnick, and finally Erik ten Hag – ultimately made the reunion short-lived and turbulent.
And now, even as his future once again becomes the subject of intense speculation, Ronaldo appears to be treading carefully over his next move.
Speaking to Caze TV on X, Alex Telles has revealed that Ronaldo turned down a chance to join him at Botafogo ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Telles, who played alongside Ronaldo at both Manchester United and Al-Nassr, made a direct plea for the Portuguese icon to join him in Brazil.
“I asked him to come here [Botafogo],” said Telles.
“I even said, ‘Come and be happy at Fogao,’ but he said it wasn’t the right time.
“Everyone knows what’s best for them.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently captained Portugal to a second UEFA Nations League title, reportedly felt that taking on another new challenge at 40 wasn’t the right move.
Despite being linked with a number of participating clubs at the upcoming Club World Cup in the U.S., Ronaldo is expected to see out his contract after recently renewing with Al-Nassr.
