Trent Alexander-Arnold snubbed Liverpool’s Mo Salah when naming the best finisher he’s seen

Few players in world football have enjoyed the kind of success Trent Alexander-Arnold has achieved before even reaching their prime years.

The Real Madrid star is widely regarded as one of the greatest in his position in football history, and by the age of just 23, he had already won every major trophy at club level.

With his extraordinary creative influence from deep, Alexander-Arnold helped redefine the right-back position. Many saw shades of David Beckham in the Liverpool academy graduate as a result, and that’s a comparison few English players have ever truly earned.

Such an ability allowed Alexander-Arnold’s forward teammates to thrive. At Anfield, Mohamed Salah broke record after record with Trent’s pinpoint deliveries helping the Egyptian sharpen his reputation as one of the deadliest finishers in the world.

Given that connection, it would make sense for Salah, who has netted 245 goals for the Reds, to be Trent’s obvious choice when it came to naming the best finisher he has ever played alongside - but that was surprisingly not his answer.

Alexander-Arnold Named Kane Best Finisher He's Seen

He was full of praise for his national teammate

During Euros 2024, England number nine Harry Kane set off to a slow start and was subsequently caught under fire for his performances, but his fellow compatriot Alexander-Arnold was quick to defend him. He said:

"Anyone who is facing England would like to see Harry Kane not playing. You just know he is a threat. Anything in and around the box, you need to be on red alert.

"He can finish it from any angle. I always say he is the best finisher I have seen or played with. He can find the back of the net from anywhere. He can drop down and build play up and his hold up play is incredible, too. All round, a fantastic player.

"I think we are talking about England's record goalscorer so that is as big as anything you can say about him. He scores goals, he is a striker, he scored two in the tournament, helped us win games and then as our captain, as our leader, he is someone who leads by example."

Alexander-Arnold would have been well aware of the threat Kane posed against defences - the pair met 12 times while representing opposite sides of the pitch, and the latter netted five goals.

Of course, they have been teammates on far more occasions, being among the best in their respective positions for their country. In 27 total matches together, the duo have combined for two goals in total.

Why Kane Over Salah?

Alexander-Arnold snubbed the Liverpool legend

Salah's goalscoring exploits in Merseyside have been little short of historic and his partnership with Alexander-Arnold has yielded exceptional results too. But the right-back evidently has a preference for Kane on the topic of finishing.

Salah's biggest strengths lie in his devastating pace, movement and the pure efficiency of his actions. His explosive style makes the game look effortless, and it’s that relentless consistency in producing goals and tearing apart defences that’s cemented his place among the Premier League’s all-time greats.

But Kane is a more textbook striker. The type that can be trusted to do what centre-forwards have always been tasked with doing - putting the ball in the back of the net. Whether it's with his right foot, left foot or head, inside the box or outside, he will find a way.

It's that level of reliable finishing that many have always admired from Kane. It's what truly sets him apart from his peers, and the Three Lions' record goalscorer is firmly regarded among the best strikers in recent history.
