Insider Offers Jarring Details on Injury Incident With Commanders WR

This year's mandatory minicamp was a tough stretch for the Washington Commanders' wide receiver core. While all of the spotlight was on the holdout, Terry McLaurin, the Commanders lost a key pass-catcher during the second session due to a mysterious injury.

The Commanders haven't offered many details on what happened exactly. Without video evidence on the incident, fans are left with the recollection of eyewitnesses in attendance at the minicamp on Wednesday.

Following that second session, Commanders insider Ben Standig explained his point of view.

"Obviously, it's hard to know exactly what happened," said Standig.

"Basically, he made a catch over the middle. It was a sort of low throw, he went down to the ground, secured, no big deal. You could tell by the way he hit that something happened. He stays down for an extra two, three, four seconds. The training staff comes out, he eventually gets up and slowly walks off the field, but then they decide to cart him over to the building. It's hard to tell exactly. What stood out a little bit was that he gets to the building with the cart-the cart kind of rolls over, sort of like a little bump out there-at that moment, he kind of yelled and let out a scream, and we're all sort of standing right there. We don't know if it's a scream of frustration or if it's a scream that the bump kind of did something to him. I can't say for sure. The whole thing was jarring."

When the Commanders returned for the third and final day of minicamp on Thursday, Washington head coach Dan Quinn addressed reporters for a routine press conference before the session. As expected, Brown's incident came up. Quinn opted to keep it a mystery.

There was no official update on the veteran wide receiver outside of revealing he would get an MRI done. For what exactly? Well, the Commanders haven't offered any further details.

Injuries are always a major concern in the NFL, especially when the cart gets involved. Based on the description from reporters in attendance, Brown's reaction while getting carted off the field and back to the facility was not a positive one.

It's even more concerning when you factor in the veteran wideout's injury history. By year two, Brown appeared in just eight games for the Dallas Cowboys. He missed the entire 2019 NFL season as he needed multiple surgeries for a knee injury.

While Brown started finding stability in Dallas from a health standpoint, his lone season with the Houston Texans included just 10 games, as he took multiple trips to the injured reserve list. Since joining the Commanders last season, Brown's season ended prematurely. He played in just 11 games, racking up 453 yards and one touchdown.
