Liverpool Linked to Portuguese Center Back in Newest Round of Rumors

Portuguese outlet O Jogo has suggested that Liverpool might have an interest in Sporting Lisbon defender Gonçalo Inácio. The left-footed center back is just 23, and is said to have a £51million release clause at Sporting.

Liverpool are not the only name mentioned in relation to the young defender, however, with Manchester United Newcastle also named in the general rumor mill as having an interest in the player.

Gonçalo is a Portuguese international since debuting in 2023, and he has made over 200 appearances for Sporting. His name has been linked with Liverpool and other top sides for a number of years now, though this summer does feel like the most promising for an actual move.

Though he is naturally a center back, he has shown the capacity to cover in midfield or at left-back. He is a quick and proactive player, which suggest an adaptability to the style of play in the Premier League.

Liverpool have already added Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong to their back line this summer, and contract discussions with Ibrahima Konaté are reportedly in a positive place (though there’s no official word on that as yet). As there may be defensive outgoings, more coming in is to be expected — including the seemingly ever-closer move for Bournemouth’s Milos Kirkez.
