‘A player that I admire’: James Garner could play a major role in bringing former teammate to…

James Garner could see his position under threat this summer with David Moyes potentially not sold on the Everton star just yet.

It’s said that a central midfielder will be a ‘priority’ for Everton this window, already putting Garner under threat.

Adding to this, fans aren’t convinced just yet by Garner, with Moyes potentially sharing the same belief with a midfielder in mind.

Nevertheless, the 23-year-old has proven his worth at times and could easily find his place in the lineup come August.

But if he can’t contribute on the pitch, he could quite easily off it after who Everton have been linked with.

Everton target Fred said James Garner is a player he admires

Garner does possess qualities that can help him continue on in the lineup, but Moyes has shown frustration at Garner’s set-pieces.

This could certainly be an aspect he looks to replace elsewhere, with Dwight McNeil the clear candidate to take the roles.

But Garner might also lack what new Everton target Fred might not have, as it’s said the former Man United man is worth £15m and could come back to the Premier League.

Straight away, it’s seen that there is a link there with Garner and Fred both playing in Manchester at the same time, and the Brazilian has a lot of admiration for the Everton man.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet, Trivela (21/06/20), Fred assessed the options United had in their academy, but no one topped Garner’s presence.

“The club has an important role in using many academy players, it has this history of using the kids that come up from the academy, it makes history at the club, and this process is important. They are great players, with a lot of potential for the future,” Fred said.

“All are very good, they are not in the first team for nothing. But what impresses me most is James Garner.

“Not because he is in the same position as me, but he is a player who has an impressive vision of the game, has a huge future for United.

“In addition to the impressive game vision, he always plays with his head up, has an impressive shot, and an incredible pass. He is a player that I admire a lot.”

Garner could play a role in bringing Fred to Everton but there is a dilemma

Everton fans will know Fred well from his time with Man United, and it will bring up a debate as to whether he’s the answer.

The 32-year-old thought highly of Garner back then, and although he didn’t fulfil his potential at United, Garner caught the eye of Thomas Frank, and judging by his knowledge of players shows that the midfielder can’t be doing too badly.

Now, with Garner and Fred clearly sharing a close bond, the Everton star can help lure the former Man United man away from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, as the midfielder has shown promising signs wherever he’s been.

His work rate and challenges in duels could be exactly what Moyes is looking for this window, and this might cause a dilemma for Garner despite welcoming him with open arms.

Both players play that box-to-box position that Moyes is desiring at Everton, and it’s certainly a close call when you take into account their last full seasons in the Premier League.

Although Garner would be thrilled to see Fred walk through the door, it won’t do him any favours in terms of competition.

Moyes does think Garner is ‘great’, but it’s just another message from the Scotsman that no one is safe.
