Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer has predicted that Manchester United will sign Arsenal top target Viktor Gyokeres this summer due to the player’s prior work with the club’s manager, Ruben Amorim.
Shearer stated, “On Viktor Gyokeres, I’m not surprised at all if they get him because of his work with Sporting and Ruben Amorim before, I think that was always going to be the case.” Gyokeres’ connection with Amorim could be a decisive factor in his decision, despite Arsenal’s participation in the Champions League next season.

Arsenal have been linked with Gyokeres for several months, with Mikel Arteta hoping to add a number nine to become the focal point of their attack.

The Gunners have the budget and leeway with regards to PSR, which could allow them to swoop in and sign Gyokeres if Manchester United can’t afford him. However, Shearer believes Manchester United’s connection to Amorim gives them an edge in the transfer race.
Gyokeres has an £85 million release clause after scoring 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season, making him a valuable asset for any team.

Benjamin Sesko has emerged as a frontrunner for Arsenal’s striker position, with reports suggesting Arteta and Andrea Berta are in talks with RB Leipzig and Sesko himself over a deal worth at least £70 million. This could potentially scupper Gyokeres’ chances of joining Arsenal.
Gyokeres’ future has been uncertain, with reports claiming he was willing to go on strike to force a move away from Sporting after they reneged on a promise to sell him for a modest fee.
Gyokeres himself has penned an angry statement on social media, saying, “There is a lot of talk at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.” Ultimately, Shearer’s prediction will be put to the test in the coming weeks as both Arsenal and Manchester United continue to pursue Gyokeres’ signature.
