Former NFL All-Pro Receiver Antonio Brown Wanted for Attempted Murder

Former NFL All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown is wanted by authorities in Florida for a charge of attempted murder, according to the Washington Post.

The warrant, issued Wednesday, shows a charge of attempted murder with a firearm. It dictates that Brown post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest until the trial. Neither Brown nor any of his representatives have commented on the situation, nor is it known if Brown has retained an attorney. Authorities have not located him at this time.

The charges come from an incident that occurred at a boxing event in Miami on May 16. As the warrant states, authorities responded to an alert from a gunshot detection system around midnight. An off-duty police officer described Brown's involvement in a physical altercation with another man. Witnesses at the event told police that Brown was the shooter, but when he was patted down, no weapon was found. Police did find two used shell casings, as well as an empty gun holster.

Police eventually found video that seemed to show Brown starting a fight. Later, the footage seemingly showed Brown grabbing the gun of a security officer. Video taken from mobile phones also caught two gunshots as Brown approached the alleged victim, who ducked. The victim told police that Brown ran toward him with the gun, shooting twice. A bullet may have grazed his neck, and he was later treated at the hospital. The victim claimed to have known Brown since 2022.

In a post on X just hours after the event, Brown claimed that he "was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me. Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me." Brown then returned to the event.

The former wide receiver is known as a talented player but a highly mercurial human being. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and was named All-Pro four times. He also has one of the most bizarre exits to an NFL game ever, walking off in the middle of a game in 2021 and tossing his equipment into the stands. He has had a litany of legal issues, including assaulting a truck driver, and was accused of domestic violence, though those charges were later dropped. He filed for bankruptcy last year.
