The sweepstakes for a potential trade involving Phoenix Suns star forward Kevin Durant seems to be taking shape. The destinations for the star forward seem to be down to three spots, and a new timeline has come about.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Houston Rockets have emerged as the top suitors. Additionally, a trade could happen over the next few days.
This is certainly massive in terms of a potential Durant deal getting done. After the Suns missed the playoffs this season, the writing was essentially on the wall for Durant in Phoenix.
The Suns also shopped Durant at the trade deadline this year, giving even more thought to his time being over with the team. It has been reported that the Timberwolves were the most aggressive in landing Durant at the trade deadline, so the two sides may be able to rekindle talks.

Minnesota should have more flexibility within the salary cap to make a deal happen, with forwards Naz Reid and Julius Randle likely entering free agency. The two sides could potentially work on a sign-and-trade if the Suns were interested in either player.
Putting Durant with Anthony Edwards would create a lethal duo in Minnesota and give the Timberwolves a better chance to win. Despite his age, Durant still averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game this season.
If the Timberwolves don't win the Durant sweepstakes, both the Rockets and Heat also are solid landing spots. Houston finished the year as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and could massively benefit from an offensive force like Durant.
Miami is expected to undergo big changes this offseason, and pairing Durant alongside center Bam Adebayo would be special. The Eastern Conference is much weaker, so if Miami were to land Durant, they could instantly become title contenders.
With the NBA Finals currently going on, a trade of Durant likely won't take place. But once that ends, it seems that Durant could be on the move once again.
