Manchester United are a club that have been in the limelight for quite a while now, mostly for the wrong reasons.

The downfall has been there for everyone to see and things don’t look promising for the club unless something drastically changes this summer transfer window.

Ruben Amorim left a brilliant project at Sporting CP to join a struggling one at Old Trafford midway through last season. The Portuguese tactician has a huge summer ahead of him and he has already made his first move, signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Now, as per reputed German journalist [Florian Plettenberg](https://x.com/Plettigoal/status/1933191262074536330), Manchester United have “officially” moved in to sign talented Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. Liverpool and Chelsea are the other clubs interested in the player.

Here is what Plettenberg had to say, via X (formerly Twitter):

> “Manchester United have now officially entered the race for Hugo Ekitike! MUFC made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt within the last 48 hours, expressed concrete interest, and gathered all relevant information. Liverpool and Chelsea remain in the race – and now Man United are in as well. Price tag: €100m.”

Ekitike is coming off a brilliant season with Frankfurt. The German club has a track record of producing incredible goal-scoring strikers and the 22-year-old has scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

As mentioned by Plettenberg, Ekitike’s asking price is close to £85m. In Man Utd’s current financial state and the fact that they need more than one signing to improve their project, spending so much on player might not be a sensible play.

The former PSG attacker has a contract with Frankfurt until 2029, and the German club are in no need to sell. Thus, it would make a lot of sense if Man Utd were to not focus on Ekitike and rather identify a different striker option.

There are a number of talented strikers in the market and what Man Utd need right now is someone who is experienced and can hit the ground running almost immediately.

Ekitike would represent a gamble that might not be worth taking. Let’s wait and see how the decision-makers at the club analyze this situation.
