As pre-season approaches at Old Trafford, Manchester United are aiming to construct a squad that can challenge for Europe next season and improve on the 15th place finish in the Premier League that was seen in the 2024-25 campaign – a season in which United also finished trophyless.
Targeting Players
To do this, the Red Devils have been signing and targeting key players such as the signing of Matheus Cunha for a fee of £62.5 million from Wolves as United’s first summer signing.
Furthermore, the Reds have been reported to be pursuing several other players including Bryan Mbuemo and Viktor Gyokeres – who finished the 2024-25 season as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe with 39 goals in Liga Portugal and a further 6 goals in the Champions League.
The Swedish international and United boss Ruben Amorim are also not strangers with the duo working together during Amorim’s spell at Sporting CP which saw the current Red Devils boss win the Liga Portugal on 2 occasions.
Cetinkaya’s Boost
Now, it has been reported by Viktor Gyokeres’ agent Hasan Cetinkaya that the Portuguese champions have promised to let the striker leave the club this summer saying that there is “evidence in writing with Sporting CP promising him to let him leave the club” during the off-season.
The fee for this departure has also been reported by the agent with a fee 60 million euros plus 10 million euros in add-ons said to be the bar which Sporting are looking to sell the 27 year old for. This is down on the price that was reported just days ago by the media and by Sporting.
This comes after immense speculation around Viktor Gyokeres’ future at Sporting which has seen much debate, controversy and reporting take place.
Competition In Plenty
The signing of the striker would bring immense force, talent and ability to the United attack although with many other clubs in for the 27 year old, the pursuit to secure Gyokeres’ signature will not be easy and arguably will be complex as all clubs prepare for the 2025-26 season.
