Tottenham closing in on beating Chelsea, Liverpool to 20-year-old Italian whizkid

Tottenham are reportedly close to securing an agreement in principle for AS Roma’s rising new midfielder Niccolo Pisilli.

According to Sebastian Vidal, Tottenham are close to securing an agreement in principle for Nicollo Pisilli. The Italian U-21 midfielder has had a breakthrough season with AS Roma, as Spurs are likely to finalise the deal once the U-21 Euros end and beat competition from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

Niccolo Pisilli may seem like a new name on the lists of Premier League teams, but he was chased by several clubs last summer when he was indeed a relative unknown. However, since he remained with AS Roma, the young midfielder went on to have his breakthrough campaign in Serie A.

Not only did he play 28 times in Serie A, the 20-year-old Italian whizkid appeared in 41 games across all competitions. Roma did their part in extending his contract until 2029, which will ensure they have a strong say should any club come in with offers for Pisilli.

Incidentally, Tottenham are closing in on a move for the talented Italian midfielder, with Sebastian Vidal claiming they have completed the ‘basis of a deal’. He also states that the deal will be continued after the U-21 Euros, which concludes at the end of June.

It appears that Tottenham have once again used their strong links in Italy to get a deal over the line, with some details probably pending. The idea of signing another young midfielder may seem to align with their plan to build a young project, as the likes of Hayden Hackney are another one of the names on their list of potential targets.

Tottenham set to beat Chelsea, Liverpool in Niccolo Pisilli chase

Team Talk reports that Tottenham were not alone in the running for Pisilli, as Liverpool and Chelsea also considered moves for the 20-year-old Italian whizkid. Those two Premier League giants are in the process of adding young talents to their squad, although the prospect of playing regularly may arrive more at Spurs compared to those teams.

Tottenham have seen success with the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall last season, as they are following their plan of recruiting young stars as well as established players. The details of a deal for Pisilli are still under wraps, although there are chances of Roma demanding significantly for one of Italy’s brightest young midfielders.
