Over the past few weeks, the contract situation between the Pittsburgh Steelers and superstar pass rusher T.J. Watt has started to garner more attention.
Watt wants a new contract that pays him what he deserves. While the Steelers are working to get a new deal done with him, coming to terms on the right number has not gotten done yet.
Despite the two sides not reaching an extension yet, there has not been a lot of negativity surrounding the situation. Watt wants to play in Pittsburgh and the team wants to keep him in town. It seems likely that the two sides will work something out.
That being said, a new update has been given on the current status of the two parties.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo spoke out about the situation. While his update came before mandatory minicamp just a couple of days ago, the same report rings true with minicamp now over.
"I don't feel that this one is contentious," Garafolo said. "If a player misses mandatory minicamp over the next couple days, you don't have to fine a player. We'll see what the Steelers wind up doing on this one. I know that they feel really good about the talks that they've had and the offers that they've made... Mike Tomlin has the belief that T.J. Watt is gonna be just fine working away from the facility, so they're not stressing about that part of it. If there was a pressure point right now, and the start of training camp seems like it's a pressure point, I feel like this thing would get done. And it will get done at some point,"
Basically, the two sides are going to get a deal done. There are still discussions and negotiations that need to be had, but a divorce is incredibly unlikely.

Watt has put together an amazing tenure with the Steelers. He has played in 121 total games with the franchise, racking up 462 total tackles, 108 sacks, 33 forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, seven interceptions, and 50 defended passes.
At 30 years old, Watt simply wants to bring a championship to Pittsburgh. Following the move to sign Aaron Rodgers, it's clear that the Steelers have that lone goal in place for the 2025 season.
Hopefully, he'll be able to kick off the upcoming campaign with a new contract under his belt that keeps him in Pittsburgh for years to come.
